Mosaic tiles are used around the home in areas that need to stay watertight such as the kitchen, bathroom and pool area. These tiles differ from normal floor tiles in that they are much smaller and are designed to be used in a mural style to create interesting patterns and pictures. There is no standard size for mosaic tiling, with some being cut in specific dimensions to create interesting looks in the home. One example of this is tiles that have been cut very thinly but have the width to create an optical illusion when layered on top of one another.
Just like standard products, mosaic tiles are durable, resilient to water and heat and are very easy to work with. The grout used to lay the tiles is fairly slow-drying allowing for more control over the finished look of the mosaic. As they are used mainly on walls and in centerpieces, most brands will not be treated in the same way that regular floor tile is to give it a non-slip finish but this depends on the type of tile purchased.
Cost is one of the main incentives to use tile in the home, although mosaic tile costs a little more as it normally comes in smaller quantities and in brighter, more vibrant colors. They are still very cost-effective and demonstrate their value in how many compliments they will get from visitors and guests. Mosaic tile sets are cheap enough to buy that a homeowner can afford to try it out in place of regular tile. It can even be used on surfaces that are curved to create stunning garden centerpieces.
